What is Potassium chromate?
With the progress of science and technology and the development of society, chemical products have invariably permeated our daily lives, in medicine, food, cosmetics, electronics, industry, and other areas, becoming an essential part of our lives. One such product is it which has developed particularly rapidly in recent years. Do you know about it?
The official answer:It is an inorganic substance with the chemical formula K2CrO4, a yellow solid, which is the potassium salt formed from chromic acid and is used to identify chloride ions. Chromium is hexavalent in potassium chromate and is a class I carcinogen, causing cancer if inhaled or swallowed.
What’s the application of Potassium chromate?
Used as a rust inhibitor for metals and in the manufacture of chromates. Used as an oxidizing agent, mordant for printing and dyeing. Used for inks, pigments, enamels, metal corrosion protection, etc.
Has an oxidizing effect. Used in leather tanning, medicine, and as a mordant and analytical reagent, etc. Can be used as an indicator for silver nitrate titration of chlorine. Indicator preparation: 10g of potassium chromate dissolved in 100mL of water, titrated with AgNO3 until slight red precipitation, left overnight. The endpoint of the titration changes from red to orange.
