Potassium Benzoate Usage
- This product can be used as edible antiseptic; antimicrobial agent. Mainly used in margarine, thin margarine, wine. The efficacy of preservatives increases as the pH value decreases, and the efficacy is strongest at pH 4.5 or below, but non-dissociated benzoic acid at low pH values can produce a slight odor in food. When low sodium foods are needed, potassium benzoate is increasingly used in place of sodium benzoate.
- Potassium benzoate is also used as a fireworks material tweeter.
- In therapeutics, potassium benzoate can also be used to treat hypokalemia.
