Alumina and aluminum hydroxide dissolves in caustic alkali solutions to produce aluminate solutions. They react at high temperatures with an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal oxides to obtain various aluminates. Its sodium, potassium, and barium salts are directly soluble in water, while calcium aluminates are transformed into sodium aluminate solutions only after reaction with sodium carbonate solutions.
