It is used for dyeing and printing of cotton. When using aluminum mordant, it can get bright red; when using chromium mordant, it can get yellowish red. It is also used for dyeing chemical books of wool and silk, and manufacturing alizarin lake. In addition, it can be used as an acid-base indicator [pH5.5 (yellow) ~ 6.1 (red)], and as a drop test indicator for aluminum, indium, mercury, etc.
