What is AIBN?
With the progress of science and technology and the development of society, chemical products have invariably permeated our daily lives, in medicine, food, cosmetics, electronics, industry, and other areas, becoming an essential part of our lives. One such product is AIBN which has developed particularly rapidly in recent years. Do you know about AIBN?
The official answer: Azo diisobutyronitrile, abbreviated as AIBN, with the chemical formula C8H12N4, is soluble in organic solvents such as methanol, ethanol, ether, acetone, petroleum ether and aniline. It is soluble in methanol, ethanol, ether, acetone, petroleum ether, aniline and other organic solvents.
It decomposes when heated to give off nitrogen and organocyanides containing -(CH2)2-C-CN groups. It decomposes at room temperature and at 100℃. Can cause explosion and fire, flammable. Toxic. The release of organic cyanide is harmful to human body.
What’s the application of AIBN?
It is used as initiator of polymerization of polyvinyl chloride, polyvinyl alcohol, polystyrene, polyacrylonitrile and other monomers; as initiator of polymerization of vinyl chloride, vinyl acetate, acrylonitrile and other monomers, and also as foaming agent for rubber and plastics, with a dosage of 10% to 20%.
This product can also be used as vulcanizing agent, pesticide and intermediate of organic synthesis. It is a toxic substance, oral LD5017.2~25mg/kg in mice, and the organic cyanide released by thermal decomposition is more toxic to human body. Organic synthesis intermediates; used as initiator of polymer.
