What is heliotropicacid?

• The official answer: heliotropicacid is an aromatic acid produced from pepper. The product is prepared as colourless needle-like crystals, which turn yellow if exposed to light. The melting point is 216-217°C.During melting it sublimates to yellow needles and is decomposed. Largest UV absorption in methanol 340nm (ε28 800);solubility: 1 part soluble in 50 parts boiling alcohol, 1 part soluble in anhydrous ethanol at 25°C, insoluble in water, ether, benzene and carbon disulphide. Piperonylicacid is a natural molecule with a methylenedioxy function that mimics the structure of trans-cinnamic acid.PiperonylicaciChemicalbookd is a selective inactivator of trans-cinnamic acid 4-hydroxylase.Chemical propertiesWhite prismatic or needle-like crystals. Melting point 229°C. soluble in water, chloroform, cold ethanol and ether.Weigh 0.5 g of piperine into a three-necked flask, add 5 mL of 20% KOH ethanol solution to the flask, install a reflux device, raise the temperature in a water bath to 95 ℃ and reflux for 6 h. Cool, filter the crystalline solution and the filter cake is the potassium salt of piperine. Put the filter cake into a small 50mL beaker, add 20mL of distilled water and dissolve it by heating slightly, remove the insoluble matter by filtration, add 1mol/L hydrochloric acid to the mother liquor and stir to precipitate all the piperoninic acid, filtrate and dry to obtain yellow piperoninic acid.
