Cuprous iodide is widely used as catalyst for organic synthesis, resin modifier, artificial rainfall agent, anode ray tube coating, and iodine source in iodized salt.In the presence of 1,2- or 1, 3-diamine ligands, cuprous iodide can catalyze the conversion of bromoaromatic, bromoheterocyclic compounds and vinyl bromide to the corresponding iodide. The reaction is usually carried out in dioxane solvent with sodium iodide as the iodization reagent.Aromatic iodide is generally more active than the chloride and iodide corresponding to Chemicalbook, so cuprous iodide can catalyze a series of coupling reactions involving halohydrocarbons, such as Heck reaction, Stille reaction, Suzuki reaction and Ullmann reaction. In the presence of dichlorobis (triphenylphosphine) palladium (II), cuprous chloride and diethylamine, 2-bromo-octene-3-alcohols are conjured to produce 7-methylene – 8-cetyc – 6-alcohols.
