• Acrylic acid (IUPAC: prop-2-enoic acid) is an organic compound with the formula CH2=CHCOOH. It is the simplest unsaturated carboxylic acid, consisting of a vinyl group connected directly to a carboxylic acid terminus. This colorless liquid has a characteristic acrid or tart smell. It is miscible with water, alcohols, ethers, and chloroform. More than a thousand kilotons are produced annually.

• Polymers are prepared by homopolymerization or copolymerization and used in coatings, adhesives, solid resins, molded plastics, etc. Acrylic acid and its series products, mainly its esters, have been rapidly developed in recent years. Like ethylene, propylene, vinyl chloride, acrylonitrile, etc., it has developed into an important raw material for the polymer chemical industry. The total world production of acrylic acid and its esters as monomers of polymer compounds has exceeded one million tons, while the production of polymers and copolymers made from them (mainly emulsion resins) is nearly 5 million tons. Acrylic acid and its esters are available for organic synthesis and polymer synthesis, while the vast majority are used in the latter, and more often copolymerized with other monomers, such as vinyl acetate, styrene, methyl methacrylate, etc., to produce a variety of properties of synthetic tree esters, functional polymer materials and a variety of additives, etc. Main application areas: (1) warp sizing material prepared by acrylic acid, methyl acrylate, ethyl acrylate, acrylonitrile, ammonium polyacrylate, and other raw materials, then polyvinyl alcohol sizing material capacity desizing, saving starch. (2) adhesive with acrylic acid, methyl acrylate, ethyl acrylate, acrylic acid-2-Ethylhexyl, and other copolymer latex, can be used for electrostatic flocking, flocking adhesive, its firmness, and feel good. (3) water thickener with propionic acid and ethyl acrylate copolymer made of high molecular weight powder. Can be used as a thickening agent, used in oil fields, each ton of product can increase production of 500t of crude oil, the effect of oil recovery on old wells is better. (4) coated paper finishing agent with acrylic acid, butyl acrylate, acrylic acid-2-Ethylhexyl ester, styrene and other quaternary copolymer latex for coated paper coating, color retention without yellowing, good printing performance, non-stick rollers, better than styrene butyl latex can save dry cooling. (5) polyacrylic acid salts using acrylic acid can produce a variety of polyacrylic acid salts (such as ammonium salts, sodium salts, potassium salts, aluminum salts, nickel salts, etc.). Used as a coagulant, water treatment agent, dispersant, thickener, food preservation agent acid, and alkali resistant desiccant, softening agent, and other kinds of polymer additives.
