[Registered Classification] Chemical Category 3.1 [Indications] For the treatment of erosive esophagitis, gastric ulcer, and duodenal ulcer. On February 28, 2014, Takeda Pharmaceutical submitted a New Drug Application (NDA) for vonoprazan (TAK-438) to the Japanese Ministry of Labor, Health and Welfare (MHLW). This NDA submission was based on good data from a Phase III clinical trial. Takeda Pharmaceutical has conducted several Phase III clinical trials in Japan to investigate the efficacy of TAK-438 for indications of erosive esophagitis, gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer, and H. pylori eradication. Compared to the current pawn proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), Vonorazan (TAK-438) has shown better efficacy in clinical trials due to the absence of CYP2C19 metabolism: better efficacy than lansoprazole for the treatment of gastric ulcer/duodenal ulcer, reflux esophagitis, and H. pylori eradication, as well as good tolerability and safety.

• Treatment of duodenal ulcers, gastric ulcers, and reflux esophagitis, low-dose aspirin-induced gastric ulcers, or recurrent duodenal ulcers. Eradication of H. pylori and adjuvant treatment of the following diseases: gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer, gastric MALT lymphoma, idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, early gastric cancer, H. pylori-infected gastritis.
