Description of triethylether
- Ethyl cellulose is a derivative of cellulose in which some of the hydroxyl groups on the repeating glucose units are converted into ethyl ether groups. The number of ethyl groups can vary depending on the manufacturer.
It is mainly used as a thin-film coaterial.
Ethyl cellulose is used as a food additive as an emulsifier (E462).

What is Ethyl cellulose?
- With the progress of science and technology and the development of society, chemical products have invariably permeated our daily lives, in medicine, food, cosmetics, electronics, industry, and other areas, becoming an essential part of our lives. One such product is Ethyl cellulose which has developed particularly rapidly in recent years. Do you know about Ethyl cellulose?
- The official answer:It is the ethyl ester of cellulose. White to light gray disperse paste, with thermoplasticity. Unstable to heat, discolored at high temperature (240℃) and loses its original physical and chemical properties. Viscosity should be specified for commercial-grade products. Relative density of 1.07~1.18, refractive index of 1.47, softening point 100~130℃, can produce the tough film and can maintain flexibility at low temperature. Can be mixed with resin, wax, oil, etc. Stable to alkali and dilute acid. Softening point and hygroscopicity decrease with the increase of ethoxy content. The ethoxy content of standard commodities is 47% to 48%. Almost insoluble in water, glycerin, and propylene glycol, but soluble in some organic solvents to varying degrees (depending on the ethoxy content). Ethylcellulose with an ethoxy content of less than 46% to 48% is readily soluble in a mixture of tetrahydrofuran, methyl acetate, chloroform, and aromatic aromatic ethanol. Those with ethoxy content greater than 46%~48% are easily soluble in ethanol, methanol, toluene, chloroform, and ethyl acetate. 5% suspension of litmus test is neutral.
What’s the application of Ethyl cellulose?
- Pressed tablets (mostly used for vitamins and inorganic salts); binder for vitamin powder; filler; pigment and other food additives dilute used as adhesives and wire paint for ink, coatings, adhesives, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and food fields, also used as fillers, adhesives and other uses Ethylcellulose is used in large quantities in coatings. It is also used as a basic material for solid lubricants for stamping metal workpieces. In microcircuit printing, ethylcellulose is used as a color carrier. In the radio industry, it is used as advanced insulating material and as a special film in protective coatings, such as the cladding layer of rocket launch charges. It can be used as hot-melt adhesive and coating for cables, paper, textiles, etc. It can also be used as insulation for extruded wires and as a toughness enhancer for plastics. Can also be used for pigment grinding base, for printing ink, for molding plastic powder, for explosive fuses, for vitamin formulations, etc. Used as a peelable protective layer to prevent corrosion and destruction of metal parts before use, also used as a peelable coating to protect fragile glassware. There are many other uses in adhesives, textiles and fibers, pharmaceuticals and food, and other industries. Industrial grade ethylcellulose is used in coatings (gel coatings, hot melt coatings), inks (screen printing inks, photogravure brush inks), adhesives, pigment pastes, etc. Advanced products are used in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and foodstuffs, such as packaging materials for pharmaceutical tablets, binders for long-lasting preparations, etc.
